The neutral-site clash between Georgia and Clemson on September 4 will kick off in prime time. The announcement was made on Tuesday that the Toe will meet Leather at 7:30 p.m. ET inside Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC and the game will be televised by ABC. The contest will be the second half of an ABC double-sided program with Alabama and Miami facing off at 3:30 p.m. ET.
This will be the 65th meeting between the two programs, but it is the first time the Bulldogs and Tigers have faced each other since 2014. UGA won 45-21 inside Sanford Stadium. Clemson won at home the previous year by a score of 38-35.
Dating back to 1994, Georgia have won six of the last seven in the series and hold an all-time decisive streak with 42 wins, 18 losses and four draws. The opening of the 2021 season will be the first of two neutral venue matches between the two teams in the next four years. Kick-off for 2024 Chick-Fil-A will be a UGA clash against Clemson inside the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Bulldogs and Tigers also have home games scheduled for 2029 and 2030 as well as 2032 and 2033. Clemson will host in 2029 and 2033. The games for 2030 and 2032 will be in Athens.
In addition to being a kickoff in the evening, it will have the opportunity to be played in front of a full house. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, in tandem with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, recently announced that the state is lifting restrictions on mass gatherings. Cooper also announced that the state will lift the mask, except under specific circumstances.
“We can take this step today because science shows that our goal of getting people immunized is working,” Governor Cooper said. “But to keep moving forward – and to make sure we keep saving lives – more people need to get immunized. “
The Center for Disease Control announced last week that vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks except in certain situations. These include public transport and doctor visits.
The Bulldogs and Tigers are set to play in one of the biggest regular-season games for the 2021 season. ESPN has ranked UGA No.3 in its post-spring power rankings. Clemson is in fourth place. Georgia went 8-2 in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season with a victory over Cincinnati in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl. Clemson made the college football playoffs for the sixth straight season, but lost in the semifinals to Ohio State. He finished the year with a 10-2 record.
